LMG’s Best Interest Mates community has raised $39,000 for Movember, shining a light on the importance of wellness in the broker industry in the process.
After Best Interest Mates’ November events - including LMG’s gathering of its Top 250 Brokers - the final amount was tallied following a gathering of LMG Commercial’s Elite brokers, recently.
Best Interest Mates is now a year old and community president Leigh Tsoumerkas said the response from brokers was so very inspiring.
“November is a key focus as we support Movember, but it’s really inspiring to see Best Interest Mates bringing brokers together all year round,” said Mr Tsoumerkas.
“We have brokers coming together for morning runs and bike rides, or simply catching up for a coffee, checking in on how each other is going in business and their personal lives.
“We’re breaking down the stigma of mental health with communities like Best Interest Mates providing a forum where men can open up to their peers without fear of judgement. This Movember, we launched a podcast encouraging open and honest conversations with members of our industry to raise awareness of how to look after ourselves and our mates”
Mr Tsoumerkas said the focus on mental health came at a time which can be stressful for a lot of brokers.
“The holiday season is about spending time with friends and family and recharging after a long year,” he said. “But meeting deadlines before the holiday season, managing staff leave and other end-of-year factors can be stressful.
“‘It’s important to check-in on friends and colleagues and check in on yourself because mental health isn’t a once-a-year reflection.”
Recently, Best Interest Mates expanded offshore with Loan Market’s New Zealand network launching its own local chapter.
“Nicole Ferguson and Bruce Patten have been championing the Best Interest Mates community in NZ and it’s amazing to see it thriving in such a short amount of time, as well,” said Mr Tsoumerkas.
